The parent wild herd of Cheviot British Primitive Goats is likely to be reduced this autumn (October/November 2026). If anyone can help by using some on conservation grazing projects or keeping even a small number to assist in breed conservation then please do get in touch as soon as possible.
This presents a significant opportunity to acquire some of these lovely goats. They are the only herd of primitive goats recognised by the Rare Breed Survival Trust and are also on DEFRA’s Native Breeds at Risk Register. They are at low numbers and we need to try and maintain as much genetic diversity as possible.
